Nicolas Ferrando is graduated of Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Ingénieurs en Génie Chimique (Toulouse) with a Chemical Engineering master degree, followed by a PhD in Chemistry from Université Paris XI. He joined IFPEN in 2004 as research engineer in the Thermodynamic and Molecular Simulation Department, in charge of physical-chemistry modeling of fluid in industrial processes and subsurface formations. Since 2017, he has been managing the project Carbone, a software for reservoir fluid modeling.
Since 2023, he has been managing a portfolio of R&D projects related to the transport and storage of Hydrogen. These projects adress issues related to subsurface (natural hydrogen, hydrogen geological storage) and to material compatibility (steels, polymers, composites).
He also supervised two PhD students and participates to educational activities at IFP-School. He has published some forty publications in peer reviewed journals, two patents, and is co-leader of a working group in Société Française de Génie des Procédés.
